Two arrested following weapons investigation in Niagara Falls

In the early months of 2024, 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara on the Lake) detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Street Crime Unit, commenced a firearms investigation. The investigation led detectives to an apartment on Harriman Street in the City of Niagara Falls where suspects were identified. 

On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, judicial authorization was granted and Niagara Falls Street Crime Detectives, with the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit, executed a search warrant at the Harriman Street address. As a result, detectives seized 24.7 grams of suspected fentanyl, $350 of Canadian currency, three replica firearms and brass knuckles. 

James McGowan, 40, of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences: 

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles)
  • Failing to comply with release order
  • Failing to comply with probation order (two counts)
  • Failing to comply with weapons prohibition order 

Megan Rousy, 39, was arrested and charged with the following offences: 

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles)
  • Failing to comply with release order
  • Failing to comply with weapons prohibition order 

The suspects were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse on Wednesday, May 8.
