Tulip lovers tiptoe through TASC

Millions of flowers provide colourful backdrop for popular picking event

Tiny Tim would have been excited about the sheer number of tulips to tiptoe through on Saturday. Traffic was backed up in both directions on Sixteen Road in Pelham as flower fanciers flocked to TASC Tulip Farm for its annual picking event. Parking lots and time slots were both full as visitors descended from all over Niagara and the Greater Toronto-Hamilton area.

Some, like Roberto Boy and Janet Valdez, came from a little farther away – the Philippines to be exact.

“It’s such a beautiful place,” Boy said as he and Valdez were documenting their visit to Canada for his blog. “It’s like paradise. We don’t have this [back home].”

The couple were among the thousands who have made the trek to the farm to walk among a colourful array of blooms – 100 different varieties totalling two million tulips spread over the 40-acre farm, according to the TASC website.

Meanwhile, Angelina Isernia, of Aurora, who was visiting the farm with her sister Rosalia and her family said they found out about the event through social media.

“We’ve seen so many videos on TikTok,” Angelina said.

“It’s a little bit of an early Mothers’ Day outing for us,” Rosalia added.

Kenneth Dullunan from Toronto was at the event with Raquel Dalauidao. He said they had also come to TASC last year in its old location on Balfour Street.

“This year is much better,” he said. “There’s more flowers.”

The positive impressions of visitors were welcome news to TASC event planner Jill McCourt.

“It’s been fantastic,” she said of the turnout on Saturday. “We’re in full bloom and the weather’s been great.”

Visitors will be able to continue to visit the farm to pick the flowers for some time yet.

“It will go on until the tulips are no longer faring well,” she said.

In addition to the flowers, visitors could sample the wares of numerous food trucks.

Visitors need to book in advance before visiting. Bookings may be made online at https://tascllc.com
